hey :)
Today I'm going to be reviewing 2 products that are constantly compared. The products I'll be reviewing are Seche Vite Fast Drying Top Coat and Sally Hansen Mega Shine Extended Wear Top Coat. These products both claim to do the same job: extend the wear of your polish, add shine, and dry your nails quickly. There are similarities in the products, however there are several differences that I want to touch base on.
Each topcoat is around the same price (between $7-10) however, Mega Shine is found in drugstores and Seche Vite is found in salons and beauty supply stores. The consistency is pretty similar with both topcoats--it has a very thick consistency in which you apply to wet nails. Applying to wet nails is the key to making these products work for you. When applying Mega Shine the scent is very similar to straight acetone (acetone is the chemical found in nailpolish remover). What I like better about Seche Vite is that the smell is not quite as powerful as Mega Shine and it smells more like regular nailpolish. The brushes on both of these topcoats is very similar and each applies pretty much the same. Also a major plus: each topcoat really did make the polish dry faster--I was apply to fully use my hands and specifically my fingers after about 20-30 min. The main differences I found were about how these products "extend" the wear of your polish. Mega Shine did keep my nails EXTREMELY shiny. The topcoat kept my polish looking very vibrant, however chipping did occur within a few days. Seche Vite's topcoat extended the life of my polish for about a solid week, but after 2-3 days my polish started looking dull and it had an almost subtle matte-ifying affect on my polish.
So which product is better?
I honestly can't say. I like both and possibly the combination of both would be the perfect topcoat. I would recommend both because the price is reasonable and they do their job as a topcoat.
